Big brother initiative

Mission – “To provide our youth with empathetic, consistent, meaningful role modeling, teaching, and advising”

Objectives

  • Bestow a presence of strong, affluent, positive black males from the community to provide guidance, support, life skills, and opportunities needed to help the youth succeed in life.
  • To improve the youth’s self-esteem, academic achievement, peer relationships, aggression, depressive symptoms, and prevent substance abuse.

The goal of the Band of Brothers Augusta  (B.O.B.) Big Brother Initiative is to support the development of mentally healthy youths by addressing their need for meaningful role modeling, teaching, and advising; thereby reducing risk factors for negative behavior and enhancing factors that promote positive behavior.

The BIG BROTHER INITIATIVE serves the school-aged boys and young men of the community CSRA community by providing the guidance, support, life skills, and opportunities needed for each of them to be successful in life.   The youth are empowered to discover and engage their potential; as they grow in their self-esteem, learn life-coping skills, manage anger, earn better grades, and develop friendships amongst themselves and with the B.O.B. members.

The B.O.B. will coordinate month to month or quarterly group learning sessions, activities, events, and/or field trips for the youth that will give each participant a chance to learn meaningfully about themselves and the world we live in.  The youth and young men in this program engage in community service, workshops, discussions, and much more through mentoring and coaching.
